NYC350 Advisory Board Charter Day Proclamation Special Report

The COMMITTEE is a grass-roots-based, tax-exempt organization designed to do three things:

Establish CHARTER DAY, 2 February as the unique day, which all New Yorkers celebrate the first municipal CHARTER OF SELF-GOVERNMENIT in this country, given to the citizens of Nieuw Amsterdam on the Second of February 1653.
Initiate "A DECADE OF RENAISSANCE" for New York which involves, encourages, supports and expedites citizens and organizations taking initiative together to plan and develop new directions for NEW YORK beyond the 21st Century and 2003, New York City's 350th Birthday.
Establish The New York City Heritage Foundation, as the ongoing benefit to the city, beyond the 350th Year Anniversary in 2003.

To animate among all New Yorkers a new sense of pride and excitement in the unique heritage of the greatest City in the world.

To encourage all arts, professions, business, labor, and all institutions to develop their own parallel support programs to CELEBRATE NEW YORK, enriching everyone's positive sense of ownership, responsibility participation and identity with New York.
To enlist New York's greatest wealth, its skilled, talented and most creative people in pioneering new community educational and cultural ventures which abets and encourages new initiatives and enterprises that allow individual interest groups and communities to solve their own Needs - in a new urban frontier.

To celebrate and encourage events which mark CHARTER DAY annually in public arenas, schools, churches to build genuine pride in a unique heritage as being part of the City which established and practiced multiplicity, welcomed diversity and new ideas, established a Compact of Freedom of Conscience and the first Charter of Self-Government over 100 years before Bunker Hill.
